Yayasan Kalla Launches Air Seeding

Kendari, September 15, 2017 – Supported by Ministry of Forestry and Environment (KLHK), Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Southeast Sulawesi and Millenium Challenge Account-Indonesia (MCA-Indonesia) through Green Prosperity Project, Yayasan Kalla launches air seeding to start massive re-forestation of 7,000 hectares of the degraded land in three Kabupatens in the province of Southeast Sulawesi.

On the technical perspective, re-forestation program by Yayasan Kalla has opened the eye of government on the need of such innovative breakthrough to overcome critical degraded land problem due to massive illegal de-forestation by private sector and by local community.  Yayasan Kalla’s combined re-forestation strategy by both air seeding and manual planting on the ground will optimize the result and thus reduce per unit cost as proven in previous effort in South Sulawesi province.

Critical degraded land needs to be re-forested according to Ministry of Forestry and Environment is 24.3 million hectares nationally, an incredibly vast area that will not be able to be covered by Government effort alone.

Thus, the effort by Yayasan Kalla through funding partnership with Millenium Challenge Account-Indonesia (MCA-Indonesia) is very much applauded by both central and provincial Government as Dr. Hilman Nugroho, Director General for Control of Watershed Area and Protected Forest at KLHK says,”We are grateful to see public and private sector participation organized by Yayasan Kalla to contribute to reforesting degraded land in Southeast Sulawesi Province”

On the ground, re-forestation program includes manual planting in several areas through partnership strategy of engaging almost every important stakeholders in the society.

Participation of every part in the society namely local community, private sector and local government are all therefore guaranteed in this program as Yayasan Kalla is currently developing a partnership scheme with local forestry unit and local community through a legal MOU that will be signed by three parties in the next few months after the launch of air seeding scheduled on September 15, 2017 to be led by Governor of Southeast Sulawesi and Director General for Control of Watershed Area and Protected Forest, KLHK.
